About the Apac district badge: As you would expect, there is a story behind each of the designs. Apac (pronounced Apach) is in the marshes of northern Uganda. Apac produces excellent Scouts who often win the national camping competitions. Their District colours are white and purple as is their District scarf, which is why the background of the badge and lettering is white on purple. In the centre is a White Rhino (which in reality are grey). Rhino used to be common in Apac but are now extinct there, but can be seen in the game reserves in the northwest. |

Behind the rhino is the River Nile and papyrus marshes that are prominent features in the area. The papyrus reeds are used to make mats, which are then used as walls and roofs for shelters and homemade tents. The rope ring and reef knot on the purple background emulates the World Membership badge and represents the bonds of Scouting friendships. P.S: Apac Scouts in the latest countrywide competitions produced the best district badge below, followed by Soroti district with the badge in the middle (bottom). They shall be representing Uganda in the East African scouting competitions later this year 2003. The Apac district badges are sold at pounds 1.75@ in support of their activities and charities. P.S - The rhino is a large, powerful, herbiverous mammal: The political rhinoceros like all political animals, is very thick-skinned, sharp-witted, and slow-moving but can move fast as hell when in danger. Canadian tourist Vaughn from RMC Kingston says he is still recovering from an African suprise at how a rhino maintained equal speed with their vehicle put at near full speed limit - they had accidentally scared the rhino's baby. Rhinos have very large and hairy horns growing out of the middle of their faces. The average rhino weighs 2000 tonnes as do many vehicles. The rhino as a valuable animal is justifiably a great source of pride, and is in some instances associated with measure of value or of wealth - as a form of currency, money or cash. With its quick speed and a short temper, subduing a rhino can be dangerous or fatal. Rather than tackling one head on, many human hunters have used safer methods, like trap - ping them in pits where they can then be killed with rocks or spears. The woolly rhinoceros's primary defense against predators is its two horns. RUN RHINO RUN! "Non Quam Cede" - the rhino 'yields to none' and may with - draw temporarily, but never gives up in a fight until success. The extended family of rhino include the unicorn (link), bear and bull. The rhino therefore has sometimes proved to be like a bully - dragging 'one' around before tossing 'one' off into the crowd!. The rhino has elephant memory and may forgive but never forgets. Rhinos' nature is such that they are regarded as mystery animals Mythically, the famed rhinoceros was at one time an ordinary animal, leading the ordinary normal life of any average animal. This is until one day, when it mysteriously grows this STRANGE rhinoceros horn, right in the middle of its head. Rhino's friends almost as those of Marconi from the human family, were concerned and sought explantations - including from witchdoctors and from psychiatrists. The rhino eversince that time has known how it feels like to be: stared at; whispered about; studied rigorously; feared by some; and even made the focus of media frenzy among others, negative or positive. The rhino fortunately is also a humerous, rib - shattering animal. The rhino has frequently had animals laughing their heads / hats off and falling off their seats, or simply laughing to tears. Wildlife Conservation Authorities barely spoke about them, as information could or can be fatal if it reaches poachers. Conservation of these valuable live rhinos is bound up with political and economic issues of tourism income and profits for the district. The Uganda state minister of tourism coincidentally comes from the Apach rhino region. Intn'l rhino horn trade is a sensitive and controversial issue. SCIENTIFIC researchers and veterinarians as well seldom talk to media, and emphasize on the need for "confidentiality". Working with the rhinos here is about wildlife management particularly through the Uganda Wildlife Authorities (U.W.A). It is no wonder Apac Scouts choose rhino for Apac LOGO: Many places and activities are named after the rhino including: Rhino Warriors; Rhino Militia; Rhino Rhino crown goddess; Rhino Heart Ladies; The Apac Rhinos (TAR) Group; Rhino Club; Rhino Securico; & Apac Internet Rhinos Radio Services (A.I.R.S) - that welcomes all to the A.I.R.S. ; Rhino Internet Solutions and Rhino Express Computer / Bus / FOOD / Delivery Services. |

Rhinos love horn instrumental sounds, so be sure to blow horns
loudly - or else the rhino shall blow its horn and your mind away. Q.Quotes on the Ugandan experience of exotic wildlife, lush countryside, temperate weather and infinite variety - Sir Winston Churchill on 'The African Journey': "The scenery is different, the vegetation is different, the climate is different, and most of all, the people are different from anything anywhere in the whole range of Africa ...Uganda truly is "the pearl of Africa" (Pearl - the product of flinching pain and years of patience more or less equivalent to bear - dip pit cleansing experiences) .
